System Overview

Twelve engines. One instrument.

ICARUS fuses wavetable, additive and granular synthesis under a physics-driven modulation system. Every engine below is part of a single voice architecture.

01

Orbital Engine

Modulators that orbit sound sources in 2D space, generating evolving movement no LFO can match.

02

Gravity Engine

A gravity field that bends orbits, pulls modulators off course and drags patches into controlled chaos.

03

Dual Wavetable Oscillators

Two morphing wavetable oscillators with warp modes, phase distortion and per-voice detune stacks.

04

Additive Oscillator

Up to 64 partials sculpted directly, with spectral tilt, harmonic scatter and inharmonic drift.

05

Granular Engine

Clouds of micro-grains torn from any sample — stretched, scattered and pitched into new textures.

06

Character Engines

Analog drift, tape wow, bit-crush grit and drive stages that give digital voices real-world weight.

07

Filter Section

Multimode filters with serial and parallel routing, drive and self-oscillating resonance.

08

Modulation Matrix

Route any source to any destination with depth, curve and polarity per slot.

09

Macro Controls

Eight assignable macros that morph entire patches from a single gesture.

10

Motion Engine

Record parameter gestures and replay them as loopable, tempo-synced motion lanes.

11

FX Rack

A re-orderable chain of studio-grade effects, from shimmer reverb to spectral delay.

12

Performance Modes

Scene switching, chord memory and latch modes built for the stage as much as the studio.

Synthesis Core

Sound generation

Engine 01

Orbital Engine

Instead of static LFO shapes, ICARUS places modulators in orbit around your sound sources. Each orbit's speed, radius and eccentricity becomes a modulation signal — so movement is continuous, physical and never exactly repeats.

  • Up to eight simultaneous orbital bodies per patch
  • Orbit speed, distance and phase all modulation targets themselves
  • Sync orbits to tempo or let them free-run into polyrhythms

Engine 02

Gravity Engine

Gravity warps the orbital field. Increase mass at the centre and orbits tighten, accelerate and whip modulation into aggressive curves. Push it further and bodies slingshot — producing sudden spikes, drops and chaotic detail.

  • Gravity amount morphs modulation from smooth to violent
  • Attractor points can be placed anywhere in the field
  • Chaos stays deterministic — patches recall identically

Engine 03

Dual Wavetable Oscillators

Two full wavetable oscillators sit at the heart of every voice. Sweep through tables, bend them with warp modes and stack detuned unison voices for width — then let the orbital system scan positions for you.

  • Independent warp, phase and position per oscillator
  • Unison stacking with spread and per-voice drift
  • Wavetable position is a first-class modulation target

Engine 04

Additive Oscillator

Sixty-four partials under direct control. Draw harmonic spectra by hand, tilt and scatter them with macros, and detune partials from the harmonic series into bell-like inharmonic territory.

  • Per-partial level and detune editing
  • Spectral tilt, comb and scatter transforms
  • Morph between two spectra under orbital control

Engine 05

Granular Engine

Load any sample and ICARUS shreds it into clouds of grains. Freeze a single instant into an endless pad, or scatter pitch and position until the source disintegrates into pure texture.

  • Grain size, density, spray and pitch scatter
  • Playhead position under orbital or manual control
  • Freeze mode for infinite sustain from any instant

Engine 06

Character Engines

Pristine is optional. Character stages sit at the end of the voice: analog-style drift and saturation, tape wow and flutter, and lo-fi crush — each dialled in with a single amount control.

  • Analog, Tape and Crush character models
  • Subtle glue or full destruction from one knob
  • Applied per-voice for natural, musical grit

Control & Motion

Shaping and performance

Engine 07

Filter Section

Multimode filters shape the combined output of every oscillator engine. Run them in series for classic subtractive sculpting or in parallel for split-band sound design, with drive on the input and resonance that sings.

  • Low-pass, high-pass, band-pass and notch modes
  • Serial / parallel routing with blend control
  • Cutoff tracks orbits, envelopes, macros — anything

Engine 08

Modulation Matrix

Every source — orbits, gravity, envelopes, LFOs, MIDI, macros, motion lanes — meets every destination in one matrix. Set depth, curve and polarity per connection and watch signals flow in real time.

  • Dozens of slots with per-slot response curves
  • Modulate modulation: matrix depths are targets too
  • Live signal metering on every active route

Engine 09

Macro Controls

Eight macros sit on the front panel, each fanning out to unlimited destinations with independent ranges. One knob can open a filter, pull an orbit closer and swell a reverb at once — patch morphing built for hands.

  • Eight macros, unlimited assignments each
  • Per-assignment range and curve
  • MIDI-learn every macro in one click

Engine 10

Motion Engine

Grab any control, hit record and perform. The Motion Engine captures your gesture and replays it as a loopable, tempo-synced lane — quantised or free, one-shot or cycling, per note or global.

  • Record gestures straight from the UI or MIDI
  • Loop, ping-pong and one-shot playback modes
  • Lanes are modulation sources in the matrix

Engine 11

FX Rack

A drag-to-reorder chain finishes every patch: shimmer and plate reverbs, spectral and tape delays, chorus, phaser, OTT-style multiband, distortion and a compressor tuned for synth material.

  • Re-orderable chain with per-slot bypass
  • FX parameters are full modulation targets
  • Global dry/wet for instant parallel processing

Engine 12

Performance Modes

ICARUS is built to be played. Scenes store complete panel states you can switch mid-performance, chord memory turns single keys into stacked voicings, and latch keeps drones running hands-free.

  • Instant scene switching with glide-over morph
  • Chord memory and strum modes
  • Latch and hold for evolving drones
